Kid Friendly Cinnamon Apples

By Estela - Weekly Bite, September 20, 2010 8:00 am

I have a little confession to make….

I can’t stop buying apples! Every Saturday I walk to our local farmers market and the apples keep looking better and better! No matter how many apples we already have, I keep buying more!

Here’s the problem… Lil’ Miss M can’t eat apples just yet…

Even though she’s got a mouthful of pearly whites… she doesn’t quite have enough to chew an apple slice all the way.

My solution? Make a big ole’ batch of cinnamon apples that are tender enough for her to chew.

Even though I made these for M, there’s lots of way I can eat them too :)

  • On top of oatmeal
  • On top of ice cream
  • Make a dessert quesadilla with PB & cinnamon apples
  • Make a dessert quesadilla with cream cheese & cinnamon apples
  • Sprinkle a little Kashi Crunch on top to make a crisp :)
  • Use as a mix in with yogurt
  • Use as a pancake or waffle topper
  • Use as a french toast topper
  • Use it as topping for roasted pork
  • I can smash em’ up into applesauce

I think you get the picture ;)

All you do is wash, peel, and slice four apples. I used Honey Crisp Apples, but you can use any apples you have on hand.

Put the sliced apples in a ziploc bag.

In a separate bowl, combine 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 nutmeg, and 1/4 tsp allspice.

Pour sugar mixture in ziploc bag. Seal bag and shake away to coat all those apples.

Melt one tablespoon of butter in a medium saucepan. Add two tablespoons water to the melted butter.

Add apples to sauce pan and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes or until apples are tender.

I packed these in M’s school lunch today :) I have a feeling they’ll be the first thing she eats ;)

If you had cinnamon apples in front of you right now, how would you eat them?

  1. I think your way sounds perfect! While this won’t work for M, I did dehydrate some apples this weekend sprinkled with a little cinnamon. A great little healthy treat that packs a little crunch!

  2. Hello, YUM!! These sound fantastic, and super-easy to make!

  3. I’ve gone apple-crazy too :-) Tis the season!

  4. I need to make them this way… they look SO good.

  5. These look great. And M goes to school?

Warmed, with whipped cream on top!

I have a confession…I’m to selfish to share my Honeycrisps with Ava, so I cook the Haralsons or other apple variety.

  7. The apples are seriously at their finest right now! I have been buying them like crazy too! The freeze well too (raw) to cook with later in the winter. Your apples look delicious! That is definitely one of my favorite fall eats!

  8. My son LOVES cinnamon apples. We typically just slice up an apple and throw it into a small bowl w/ sprinkled cinnamon. He thinks they’re sweet enough w/ out any added sugar, thank goodness. I’d personally like your version better :)

  9. Looks and sounds like you had a busy weekend :)

These look good. I love anything cinammon… I have to say though for some strange reasons apples make me super hungry.

  10. I would eat them on top of some greek yogurt with a sprinkle of ganola. The last picture of them made my mouth water ;) I was actually thinking about making apple butter as christmas gift and to make it even easier, was going to use my crock pot!

  11. These look delicious. I always think to make these after a dinner where i’m craving something a bit sweet. I always have the ingredients handy, why not? You have inspired me. :)

Try peeling and then grating the apple and serving it as a finger food. My 17 month old loves eating it that way.

  15. kate says:

I have the apple fever right now, too! Cinnamon apples are such a fantastic snack idea!
