A Green Smoothie for M…

By Estela - Weekly Bite, March 2, 2011 6:50 am

I did it…

I made my kid a green smoothie.

M’s a big fan of smoothies & I’m a big fan of green smoothies. Anything that contains 3 cups of raw spinach and tastes like banana’s and honey sounds good to me.

Yesterday I was a having a major green smoothie craving and knew a certain someone would be begging for one of her own. Here’s everything that went in the mix…

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 frozen avocado
  • 1 sliced pear (or any fruit of your choice)
  • 3 cups raw spinach
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 cup milk (I used soy milk)

*note* if you use fresh banana & avocado add 1 cup of ice to the mix

I thought she’d turn her nose up to the green color…. but no…

If mommy was drinking it she had to have it too…

I think its safe to say this kid’s a fan.

She drank it up… green color an all.

Now if I can just get Mr. Weekly Bite to drink one.

He refuses to give into the green smoothie trend ;)

Bananaberry Smoothie

By Estela - Weekly Bite, January 11, 2011 6:44 am

Despite the freezing cold temps, I’ve been craving lots of smoothies.  There’s something clean and refreshing about a smoothie.  You wanna know something weird though… when I drink a smoothie for breakfast, I drink a cup of coffee too.

See, weird.  Anyone else do that? Or am I solo on this one?

Despite my weirdness, this smoothie is perfect.  It also makes for a great kiddie snack too!

Here’s everything you need:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup mango nectar

Throw everything in a blender and blend away :)  If you’re using all fresh fruit, add a handful of ice cubes to make it nice a slushy.

You can also change up the flavors of this smoothie by switching out different fruits or a different flavor nectar.

Someone else enjoyed the smoothie too….

This was clearly the highlight of her day ;)

Yes…

I went there….

But… before we get to those delicious sounding popsicles…

I had a great lunch with Tracey & Ameena. We had lunch at Zaytinya in DC. I had such a great time! Tracey and Ameena were so nice and very easy to talk to! I love meeting bloggers :)

Here’s Maya & M. M didn’t feel like cooperating for the picture…

Now on too those spinach popsicles….

I know… you think I went to far…

But I was thinking… since we put spinach in our smoothies, why not try them in popsicles?

These popsicles involved blueberries

And a tablespoon of honey.

I threw everything in the food processor…

And there you have it… murky looking swamp water…

This actually tasted VERY VERY good :) :) :)

Ready for the freezer….

To help get the popsicles out, I spray a little nonstick cooking spray inside each popsicle holder before I pour it in.

I still need to wrap my head around the idea of eating a green popsicle… I do drink green smoothies, so how different can it be? Right?!?!?

Next thing ya’ know I’ll be throwing amazing grass and chia seeds in ;) Justing kidding… maybe… ;) ;) ;)

Stay tuned for the verdict….

The question is…

Would you eat a green popsicle???

On the agenda for today:

  • Get a 6 mile run in
  • Buy gift of a first birthday party
  • Work on Weekly Bite Newsletter
  • Run a few errands
  • Come up with a dinner idea for tonight
  • Buy a new toothbrush for M… (Shiner chewed hers up… jealous much?)

Have a great Thursday :)
