Meet Shiner
I’d like you to meet Shiner. Shiner is my 9 1/2 year old Lab/Chow mix. We got Shiner from a dog pound in North Carolina when he was 6 weeks old. The pound said they found him in the middle of a field by himself. Can you believe that?! We fell in love the minute we saw him! When we got Shiner, he had 104 degree fever and worms 🙁 I was worried we would have to give him back… but after seeing the vet many times, he was ours to stay 🙂 Nine and a half years later, he’s the best dog in the world… He’s fiercely loyal, and 100 pounds of pure love!
Shiner is quite the traveler. He has lived in North Carolina, Texas, San Diego, and now, Washington DC. Shiner and I have been through a lot together. He’s been my best friend during some tough times… and now, he’s learning how to live with a baby. I’m also learning how to take care of a baby and give Shiner the love and attention he deserves. Has anyone done this before… balancing a dog with a new baby?
Some of you may be wondering where the name “Shiner” came from… Can you guess?
Ok. I’ll tell you.
I was born and raised in Texas. There is a city “Shiner, Texas” which houses the brewing company “Shiner Bock”, which happens to be my favorite beer of all time! So, after seeing Shiner for the first time, I new his name would be “Shiner”… he just looked like a “Shiner.”
I hope you all enjoyed meeting Shiner! He’ll be a frequent guest on this blog!
Question of the Day….
Do you have a pet? How did you come up with their name? What’s the story behind it?
I read your post title and thought to myself, “oh, wow, that dog is named after my favorite US beer”. He is adorable. Balancing a baby and a dog isn’t too hard. Talk to Shiner a lot and keep him around. Pet him when your hands aren’t full. Dogs do great with babies.
Such an adorable dog!!!! He looks so lovable! I have two kitties… Caitie and Bella (pics on last night’s blog post, actually). I think we just came up with their names, but interesting fact, they were both given food names at the shelter- and we adopted them about 1.5 years apart at two different shelters. Before we adopted them, Caitie’s name was Pumpkin, and Bella’s was Kiwi. LOL!
shiner is beautiful! we named our dog julius b/c that was the name both my sister-in-law and i wanted to name our unborn sons one day. we figured neither one of us should get it and it should go to a dog.
hiya, Shiner! Gorgeous dog!
I don’t have a pet…I wish I had a cat though!
oh my gosh I love you dog. I grew up with labs…my parents still have two (ages 10 and almost 11!), and I just bought my very first dog of my own. He is a chocolate lab, and I love him to death! He is with my ex-boyfriend right now until the beginning of December though, and I miss him terribly 🙁 I hope to see Shiner a lot in the future…he looks like a great dog! 🙂
