look out pottery barn….
Did you know that I’ve had this sewing machine for 3 years and have never used it?!
Brand new, in the box, never used.
I’ve always loved the idea of saving a little money by sewing my own pillows and curtains, but when it came down to actually learning how to sew, I was intimidated. So 3 years ago, I mozeyed on over to Target and bought myself a cute little sewing machine… which has since been sitting in my basement.
To make matters worse… I love shopping for fabric… online, in fabric stores, everywhere. If I came across fabric I liked, it had to be mine.
So there I was… brand knew sewing machine, super cute fabric, pillow inserts, and clueless as to how to put it all together.
Well that all changed yesterday.
My mom was visiting for Thanksgiving and my mission was to bust out the sewing machine and learn to sew a pillow. It didn’t have to be a fancy pillow, just something simple.
After a sewing machine tutorial from my mom, I did it!
All on my own. I measured, cut, and sewed my little heart out. All with the guidance of the best possible teacher 🙂
M helped too 😉
And there you have it!
My cute little pottery barn look alike pillow 🙂
On the agenda next… a cushion for a chair in M’s room.
I’m off to shop for fabric!
Happy Black Friday!!
nice work! i haven’t used a sewing machine since i was in home ec:-)
I found your blog while hunting for quiche recipes recently (and I made your quiche- it was absolutely delicious!).
I also have a sewing machine that has gone unused…it’s so intimidating to me! One of these days…
Last time I tried to use the sewing machine I broke three needles and one almost flew into my eye. I haven’t sewn since.
I wish I could sew. Whenever I try to either a) I almost cut my finger off. or b) I jam the sewing machine.
OOPS! 🙂
good for you! i haven’t sewn since 7th grade when i made a vest. a hideous vest i would like to forget.
That chair and pillow combo look like the perfect place to rest for a Thanksgiving food coma. Or to grab a plate of leftovers for lunch 🙂
Moms are the best teachers! Your pillow looks awesome!
Love it! I have a sewing machine that never gets used either. You’ve inspired me!
this makes me want a sewing machine SOOOOOO bad! you know, you could send me a pillow or 12 if you’d like 😉
Ha! you’re too funny! I’d love to send you a pillow, or 12. Just don’t laugh at all the mistakes 😉
So good to see that you are picking up all the family traits. On both sides of the family. Traditions will caring on with you. Next is crocheting afghans.
Agreeing with Aunt Edna ! (Happy Thanksgiving Aunt Edna !)
..and you know I have plenty of fabric to share….
I LOVE this. Go you!
I’m so scared to sew. This is so much that my husband sews buttons on for me. Yes, I know this is sad! You have just inspired me to try this for the next year. I know it will save tons of $$ too. 😉
This looks GREAT! You have almost inspired me enough to drag out the sewing machine I used in the 70s when I was in home ec, blow the dust off, and sew a seam!
